Wincton City right-back Alex Dawson is ready to pull on the trainers this week and start working his way back towards fitness after a close-season hernia operation.
The 23-year-old went under the knife 14 days ago in Lodon to cure an injury which he had played through for the final couple of the months of the 2012/13 campaign. He will start jogging later in the week and expects to be fully recovered in time for the start of pre-season training at the end of June.
Dawson also has his own match of the day coming up which will provide the drive to get back to full health – he’s getting married next month! “The operation went well and I’m moving about fine,” Dawson told the Wincton Gazette.
He reported that the surgeon had a little bit more to do than he had intended but he was pleased with how it went and he is expected to be back jogging this week. As he will be back for the start of pre-season training it won’t be a problem. He has been given a programme from the physio which he has to follow over the summer.
His operation was delayed by a week to let him play in the last game at Manfield United but that won’t make any difference to being back for pre-season training. He hopes to be back fighting for promotion next season as he believes “We should have plenty of momentum from the way in which we finished last season”
